Early morning

We are at sand lake...

Boston to Seatle!

Thought our trip was long. Tyler and Brandon pulled into the campsite next to ours last night and we are fellow travelers but they are going much farther. You can check out there blog at http://redbikeandblue.wordpress.com/

Found campsite

Memorial weekend is not the best time to try and find a campsite for one night. We don't get water and electric but a bathroom with showers is all we really need.

Lib is going to swim in the lake before bed and she really wants to fish but I'm not cleaning and cooking fish without water. Not Sure if it's going to rain our not tonight. We have the dry stuff in the trent and rain cover ready if things get gray.

Rebecca and Nadia are coming to visit this evening so we are looking forward to that.

On the road again...

Ok we are up in rockford now. What a beautiful town...

The Incident

So we are riding along at the 4.5 mile marker and there is a little curb I need to go over. No big deal. I've done these things 20 times and nothing happened. Well, I've never done it with a trailer packed with all our gear, and perhaps a bit top heavy as well. Took the little curb that leaned the trike a little right and the next thing I know I'm laying on my side with the left wheel above me. I quick pick the trike up to move it way off the main street and notice the back tire is not moving as easy as it should. Instantly I had an idea what happened but didn't want to look to verify. I knew if it was true the trip start would be pushed back a day. Eventually I did look and my fears were realized. Not something a limited field tech could manage with his simple tools and patch kit. At least this field tech ;)

So after some dinner, Star Trek Voyager on Netflix, and a good night's sleep in our own beds we are waiting for Terra Trike to open (9 AM) where we can go to have a new tire put on and the rack moved to the other trike. At that point we will split up the load better and be back on our way again. It was a learning experience and probably not the last one we will have. Praise the Lord it happened only 4.5 miles from home rather than 25, 50 or 100. And another praise is that Terra Trike is open today. Lib was awesome through the whole thing. Though a bit disappointed that we would not be staying at our scheduled campsite, she was trooper and we will soon be back on the road again (only a day behind).

To the Trail-head

Was a good trek to the trailhead. Had one interesting sidewalk corner that had no room for two trikes and a trailer but we pulled through and learned something new about traveling in traffic. Thankfully we wont be doing much of that anyway.

All Packed and Ready to GO! (maybe)

OK so here it is/was all packed up and ready to go. It was a bit unsettling having so much on there at one time but it handled decently and it was surprisingly easy to peddle. I had no idea what would befall us only 4.5 miles into our trek. If you are following us on Latitude you will find we are still in GR (more on that later).

Virtual Trip - Thank You Google Earth and MapMyRIDE.com

TODAY IS TRIKE TRIP DAY .5!

TODAY is the day! Nadia helped Lib and I sort and pack all our stuff into appropriate bags. Becca helped Lib get her clothes selected. It's difficult to get so much stuff into such a small space. I should make a list of all the things we are bringing and determine if we should have brought it or not. The only thing I don't believe we will need is a table cloth and clips, but both my daughters batted their pretty big eyes and I had to go with it. The real reason I allowed it though is it doubles as a tarp in case we get caught in a downpour ;) Sneaky dad! I'll get a picture of everything packed up as soon as we have Libs trike. I'm working until 2 and running over there as soon as I get out. Our plan is to be on the road by 5 at the latest and to our first campsite by 8 tonight. It's supposed to be hot today, but I'm hoping it cools down a little this afternoon/evening. I'm dreading Sunday (weather.com says high of around 85).

Our Route

In case anyone is interested here is our trip plan. It totals 195 miles but I'm sure we will get over 200 with trail to camp treks. If you would like to follow our progress on Latitude send us a request. As I've been studying it more and more next year (would love to make this a yearly thing, as of now - heeh) might be a west coast trip the whole way.

Almost Here!

The day of our almost 200 mile trike trip is almost upon us. Liberty and I are excited with anticipation. Rebecca has been diligently managing our supplies and I'm so thankful for her help. Tonight we are packing everything up as it will be for the coming miles. I'll try to post updates and pictures as we can.
